The Time Out Book of New York Short Stories
A collection of tales inspired by the city of New York, both by inhabitants
and those looking through the mists of imagination, this is a thoroughly
enjoyable work. The book is filled with cutting edge contemporary literature,
most of it is dark in some way, as even the light airy stories have some
dark presence underneath. There are no real genre pieces in this collection,
all have there own energy which transcends genre and many are truly inspired.
The opening tale by Mark Amerika sets the mood perfectly and there are far
more highs than lows in this collection, including excellent tales by
Michael Moorcock, Russell Celyn Jones, Jonathan Carrol, Cristopher Fowler and
Joyce Carol Oates. [in print - UK / US]
